Skyrim wins in framerate count but can't compete with the beautiful textures in Elden Ring. While Elden Ring may be a newer release, it's worth noting that Skyrim has had a gazillion updates and remasters since its release in 2011, with numerous graphic update patches for newer generation consoles. So, comparing Elden Ring and Skyrim's graphics is not unfair. Elden Ring boasts a rich, immersive world filled with picturesque sceneries and many amazing locations. The map has ten main locations, but you can complete the game without visiting them all. The whole map of Elden Ring is around 30.5 square miles; while huge, it's not bland or repetitive (unlike a particular game that rhymes with 'Pyrim'). Each location is a delight to explore, with intricate design and detail that bring the world to life. Since you're not given any help with quest tracking, you'll need to explore the gigantic map and curate your journey. Apart from the main quest, there's a lot to do in Elden Ring. The huge map has numerous golden seeds, sacred tears, dragon hearts, and lots of collectables scattered throughout the map. While in Skyrim, the map is a bit dynamic, with random things popping up in the map for never-ending side quests like the Dark Brotherhood assassination quests. Compared to Skyrim, Elden Ring has a larger map and is full of gruesome enemies, terrific sceneries and many unique things to explore. Skyrim: The Land of Majestic Peaks Bethesda's primary focus has never been graphics, and it's pretty evident from their best sellers like Dishonored, TES, Fallout series, etc., that Bethesda values quality story and gameplay over graphics. This doesn't mean that Skyrim's graphics are terrible; rather, they're low enough that even a potato PC can run the game smoothly. Faces can also be a letdown, with some characters looking better than others, unlike the character design in Elden Ring, which is topnotch and extremely detailed. Low-resolution textures and low-poly models can be overlooked when standing on the 'Throat of the World' and taking in the beautiful snowy scenery. You'll be impressed by Skyrim's underground dwemer ruins, mountainous terrains, rivers, and cities, only to realize that you're seeing repeated textures everywhere! Elden Ring takes the cake regarding visuals, with amazing character design, a graphical masterpiece world and attention to detail. In fairness, though, TES Online is the latest release of the TES series, not Skyrim, and it has upgraded graphics compared to Skyrim (but still not up to Elden Ring's standard). With endless locations to visit and explore, you'll never run out of places or things to see. You'll later realize that this isn't a feature; it becomes repetitive and boring. The original game of Skyrim features nine holds. Still, this number expands with the addition of DLCs, allowing players to explore new locations. The entire map of Skyrim is almost half of Elden Ring's, sizing at around 15 square miles. There are many places to visit in Skyrim, including dwemer ruins, bandit hideouts, established cities, and much more. But the biggest issue with Skyrim is that you can notice the same format copied in every cave, dungeon, and city. This gets repetitive quickly, which is not the case with Elden Ring, as you'll discover new things on every corner. Roaming about in Elden Ring is a joyous exercise, as you never know what you'll encounter. But with Skyrim, everything you find in your journey becomes too predictable after a while. You'll find fast traveling better than exploring the map. Skyrim does have a secret weapon in the form of 'Mods' that completely transform the game into a graphical masterpiece (provided your PC can handle it). Due to its mod-friendly codes, and an earlier release date, 'Nexus mods' is full of Skyrim graphics mods! Elden Ring vs. Skyrim: Enemies Elden Ring: The Lands Between's Hostile Menace When I first entered the Lands Between, I was struck by how beautiful the environment was. But it didn't take long for me to realize that danger lurked around every corner. The beasts and NPCs that call this place home would attack me on sight. You have a very limited number of friends in this place, while in Skyrim, you'll find more friends than foes (unless you attack a chicken). My advice to novice Elden Ring players would be to stick with the shadows and avoid all confrontations with enemy NPCs until you're sure you can do some damage. Collect runes, explore, and combat easy enemies till you can upgrade your armor and weapons. Elden Ring's enemies are responsible for the fame it has gathered worldwide. These guys make Skyrim's enemies look like thumb-sucking babies. Elden Ring is unforgiving in battle, and the bosses are truly extraordinary opponents. Just a word of caution, though, if you're playing Elden Ring after Skyrim, don't jump into battle with your sword right away… just don't. In Skyrim, you are pretty overpowered against your common enemies. At the same time, Elden Ring makes you feel like everyone is overpowered but you. Many enemies aren't even accessible until much later in the game, so new players don't need to worry too much about them immediately unlike Elden Ring, which is extremely unforgiving for new 'FromSoftware 'players. High-level players will find difficult enemies on every corner of their journey. But don't worry; you'll be alright with strong armor, a good blade, and some magic potions. Keep an eye out for dragons; that's all I'm saying. They are the real deal. The terrifying flying reptiles swoop down from the sky and use shouts at anybody who dares to stand in their path. Never fear, brave explorer; you will have the opportunity to prove yourself worthy of respect from those dragons. Remember that dragons might seem difficult to defeat. However, as you progress, complete quests, and increase your skills, you can take down the toughest of enemies. This is similar to Elden Ring, but Elden Ring is extremely tough for newbies. On the other hand, Skyrim appears pretty easy to new players. Elden Ring vs. Skyrim: Lore Elden Ring: Lore in the Land of the Gods Elden Ring is set in the Lands Between, a world where the structure of reality is shaped by the will of its gods and demigods. While Skyrim had the advantage of having a fanbase because of the previous installments. However, it wouldn't be wrong to say Skyrim has done justice to the series and amassed an audience larger than previous installments combined! Skyrim carried the legacy of its predecessors, unlike Elden Ring, where there is no continuation of lore, so Skyrim has lots of lore from the previous games added to the main story, books, and characters. Skyrim is Tamriel's most northern province, inhabited by all races. Still, mostly the Nords, who make up the majority of the population, and their High King is selected at the annual Moot, a gathering of jarls. It is customary for an area to have its own leader, known as a jarl, who is either hereditary or a hero. While the High King usually remains in power until his death, he may be removed from office for grave transgressions against the honor of the realm. You'll not find any kind of sophistication or politics in Elden Ring, just plain old killing and dismembering. The history, myths, and cultural heritage woven into Skyrim are simply epic. It's like a history lesson, a mythological adventure, and a cultural immersion all rolled into one. And the best part? You don't have to suffer through boring lectures or textbooks because it's all woven seamlessly into the game. Everywhere you turn, there's a new quest, a new book, or a new character spouting off some ancient wisdom. And trust me, the more you delve into the lore, the more captivating this world becomes.
