Fortnite is a massive online survival game where 100 players battle it out until there’s only one man left standing. It’s fast-paced, action-packed, and with 250 million players around the world, things never get boring. But what makes it so popular? One of the major factors that has made Fortnite so successful is that it’s free to play. Players don’t need to take cash out from their pockets to enjoy the game with their friends which makes it more accessible than other shooter video games like Battlefield or Call of Duty. It’s also for this very same reason why Fortnite’s fan base is comprised largely of kids. Another reason why Fortnite has become a league of its own is that you can play it on any type of platform, from PC and console to mobile phone and tablet. But that’s not the only cool thing about Fortnite. You can actually make money playing too! Perhaps the best example of this is 28-year-old streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins who earns a whopping $500,000 a month from live streams of his gameplay alone. Although you might not be receiving a Ninja-sized paycheck anytime soon, you too can profit off Fortnite. Here’s how: Different Ways To Make Money Playing Fortnite Start Streaming On Twitch Perhaps one of the easiest ways to make money on Fortnite is by streaming your gameplay on platforms like Twitch. How does this work? Twitch offers its users two ways to track what their favorite streamers are doing: through streaming and subscribing. The money mainly comes from subscriptions. A basic subscription is $4.99 a month. Streamers generally receive half of that. This means that the bigger your fan base the bigger your earnings. With over 522,000 followers on Twitch, you’ll be purchasing your first BMW in no time. Aside from subscriptions, there are other ways of turning Twitch into a money-making machine. You can do it through: Small payments called Bits, Influencer marketing, or By setting up donations using PayPal, Cryptocurrency, or via third-party donation services like Streamlab and Donorbox. Twitch Bits are like mini-donations that fans can spend on their favorite streamer’s channel in the form of “Cheers”, and the streamers take home $1 for every 100 Bits. The only downside with Bits is that it’s only available for Twitch Partners and Affiliates. Setting up donation buttons on your channel is fairly easy as well, and the process is pretty much the same whether you’re using Bitcoin, PayPal or Streamlab. All you have to do is copy your PayPal, Crypto wallet, or your donation page’s link address and pastes it on your channel’s “Edit Panel”, and voila, you can now start accepting donations from your viewers! However, most of the famous Twitch streamers make a living through a combination of what I just said above with the addition of ads, affiliate sales, and sponsorships. One common feature of the most successful Twitch streamers is that they’ve made gaming a full-time career, spending at least 8 hours a day glued to their computers, playing games like Fortnite. Early in 2019, Fortnite streamer Chaotic received a record-setting, $75,000 donation on his Twitch stream. And while donations of that size are extremely rare, it’s not exactly impossible if you’re willing to put in time and effort. Of course, newcomers and average gamers like us aren’t going to start making big bucks right away. But once you’ve built up an audience, you may be well on your way to becoming the next Ninja of Fortnite! Start Streaming On Youtube More and more people these days are ditching the traditional corporate job in favor of a full-time Youtube career. You make a couple of videos, put them up on Youtube, and watch the dollars roll in. Sounds like the perfect get-rich-quick recipe, right? Not exactly. While being a Youtuber is a fantastic way to earn reasonable money while doing what you love, much like any startup, you need to put in work before you can turn your Youtube channel into a lucrative business. Don’t start your Youtube channel thinking that you’ll be making money off of it. You can’t simply upload a couple of videos and hope that one of them goes viral. Plus, Youtube doesn’t allow creators to monetize their videos until they’ve reached a certain number of views and subscribers. It will only offer ad monetization (YouTube Partners program) to active channels that offer genuine and useful content. You must consistently upload high-quality content if you want to attract more viewers and grow your channel. You can upload single games of you winning Fortnite which is what Ninja and Teen Food usually do to maximize their revenue. And honestly, you can just copy what they’re doing since they’re obviously succeeding. Then, you can set up a schedule of when you should put up new videos. This establishes your channel’s reliability in delivering new content. Aside from a constant stream of video uploads, you must also connect with your audience on a personal level. That means building a community and generating higher levels of engagement. Once you’ve established consistency in giving your audience an enjoyable viewing experience, you’ll soon notice a steady rise in your following. Kids are obsessed with Fortnite because it’s a fun game. That’s pretty much it. I wouldn’t say that it’s bad for them. The only problem with kids playing Fortnite without their parent’s or caretaker’s supervision is that they might play the game in excess without stopping.
