Phew, we nearly faced game over.
On the fateful Sunday of September 17th, CareerGamers found itself on the wrong end of a Google deranking. It felt like watching my hard-earned XP points evaporate. The analytics for views, visitors, and every other magic number that makes a content creator’s heart tick, started spiraling down as if shoved off a cliff.
Check out the screenshots from my Google Search Console. When I say it fell off a cliff, I’m not role-playing!
Four solid years of leveling up my content style, honing my systems, and crafting my narrative - felt like they got zapped by a rogue Google bot. One by one, my articles blinked out from Google’s search pages. From a bustling virtual town of 5000 daily views to a ghost town. My community was scattered to the digital winds, my website left barren, and my Google reputation was in tatters.
But as any seasoned gamer knows, it’s never over until the credits roll.
After mourning my site’s premature demise for a couple of weeks, lo and behold, a flicker of life surged through. The heartbeat of CareerGamers ebbed faintly once again. Turns out, the rumors of its demise were greatly exaggerated.
I got a lifeline, courtesy of an email from Google Search Console. A tool that helps me, and others like me, decipher whether our digital doodles are hitting the mark with you all. Apparently, a glitch in the matrix led every page, post, and pun of mine to redirect to a doppelganger site. Google’s AI, in its zealous vigilance, axed my site from the search results. No rankings, no traffic. And no traffic is bad news for a gamer trying to make a coin or two.
With the treasure map Google sent my way, I brewed a concoction potent enough to resurrect CareerGamers from being just another ghost in the graveyard of the Internet.
The site is on the mend, but the experience was a reality check.
For over three years, I’ve been the bard narrating the tales of CareerGamers, with over 700 articles to my name. My quest had always been to guide you through the realms of Skyrim, Valorant, Zelda, and more. But, here’s the twist. My heart yearns for the hidden gems in the gaming universe, away from the overhyped spectacle of triple-A titles. Their charm has waned, morphing into a monochrome canvas of blandness. The once daring and imaginative landscapes have succumbed to the lure of lucre, shedding their daring spirit.
So, it’s time to change the quest.
CareerGamers will now venture into the enchanting domains of strategy, simulation, and management genres. Forget the high-octane shootouts in Call of Duty or the whimsical battles in Fortnite. I’m steering this ship towards the realms where Command & Conquer, Total Annihilation, Stellaris, Sim City, and others reign. These are the games that have shaped my gaming odyssey, and it’s time I focus on what games I love best.
In this new chapter, I’ll pen down retrospectives, guides, reviews, interviews, and more. The idea is to dive deep into these genres. Genres that, sadly, don’t get the attention they deserve.
Moreover, I’m dreaming beyond the CareerGamers. The incident with CG nudged me to diversify my quest. As an avid and passionate user of real notebooks, I envision melding the tactile charm of pen and paper with the digital wizardry to create something magical. An app that captures the essence of scribbling notes on paper, but with the digital perks. It’s in the clouds for now, but the blueprint and possiblities excite me.
Also, I’ve hit pause on the CareerGamers newsletter and the free course offering. My only experance in the game indsutry is through setting up my own gaming company, Chaos Trend, in 2008.Due to this lack of experance at other companies, I felt a tad out of league advising on landing jobs in the gaming industry. But worry not, I’ll conjure up something enriching email newsletter soon. Perhaps I could start a Patreon.
Meanwhile, I welcome your scrolls of wisdom. If you have ideas for products, services or newsletter ideas, shoot them to my personal email address: nps2310 at gmail.com (replace at with @).
I cherish the time you took to read this saga. Your camaraderie on this quest is the elixir that keeps CareerGamers alive. And I’m looking forward to many more adventures together.
Here’s to even more fantastic gaming moments to come.
Nick.
