The Witcher 3 Gwent Collector’s Guide: Missable Cards Revealed

If you love The Witcher franchise, then you know that The Witcher 3 video game offers one of the most immersive gameplay experiences ever. It unlocks a vast world with thousands of quests and hours of exploration.

Gwent is a big part of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Acquiring all cards from different decks is one of the biggest challenges for thousands of players worldwide.

Many cards can easily be missed while playing since the storyline is often intertwined.

Let’s look at some of The Witcher 3 missable Gwent cards and how to obtain them.

Witcher 3 Missable Gwent Cards

You must collect every Gwent card available to earn the Witcher 3 “Card Collector” trophy.

Unfortunately, the “Collect ‘Em All” secondary quest is among the most challenging in The Witcher 3. The game doesn’t allow you to check which Gwent cards you have, so you must constantly track your cards.

Not all Gwent cards in The Witcher 3 are missable.

That’s because there are multiple ways to obtain them, and some require you to perform actions related to a particular quest to get a specific card. These types of Gwent cards are easily missable.

Here are some Gwent cards that you can only acquire during certain sections and sequences of the game.

Geralt of Rivia

Card typeClose Combat Unit
Card strength15
Special abilityHero
FactionNeutral
QuestOld Pals
LocationNovigrad

The Geralt of Rivia Gwent card is a close combat card. It provides the highest strength points without special effects or risks.

This card is acquired from Thaler, but players often panic when they can’t find him in the game or the option to play Gwent with him is unavailable.

To get this card, start the “Old Pals” Gwent quest and play with Zoltan. You will win the Eithne Card in the process. Then you must set an objective marker for Roche’s location, find and challenge him to play Gwent. Once you beat him, he will give you the Saesenthessis Card.

Now that you’ve completed these two Gwent quests, you can challenge Thaler and beat him. You can often find him at the Seven Cats Inn after completing the quest “A Deadly Plot”.

John Natalis

Card typeClose Combat Unit
Card strength10
Special abilityHero
FactionNorthern Realms
QuestA Dangerous Game
LocationNovigrad

This is a very useful card to have in your deck, so obtaining it early in the game is a good idea. John Natalis is a close combat unit with hero abilities. It will allow you to easily handle multiple opponents and strategies during each game of Gwent.

You can obtain the John Natalis card from a character called Ravik. You need to start the “A Dangerous Game” side quest to do this. As part of the quest, you must go to The Golden Sturgeon (a tavern in Novigrad) and search for Ravik.

You will find Ravik being cornered by Earl and another lackey. Earl will offer to play Gwent with you in return for Ravik’s life and the card. Once you deal with Earl and his lackey, Ravik will give you the card.

Dandelion

Card typeClose Combat

Special abilityCommander’s Horn
FactionNeutral
QuestA Matter of Life and Death
LocationNovigrad

The Dandelion Gwent card may not be worth obtaining for many players, but if you wish to collect all of the cards, it’s easily overlooked. The card has a unique “Commander’s Horn” ability, doubling the strength of all other units in the same row.

The way to obtain this card is during the sidequest “A Matter of Life and Death”. Once you start it, Geralt can play a game of Gwent with three guests at a masquerade party. Defeating all three opponents will award you the Dandelion Gwent card.

Iorveth

Special abilityHero
FactionScoia’tael
QuestShock Therapy

Iorveth is another one of those easily overlooked Gwent cards. It is quite a convenient card to have, mainly because it’s unaffected by other special cards and abilities during gameplay.

You can obtain the Iorveth Gwent card through the “Shock Therapy” side quest near the Gedyneith oak tree in Skellige.

The quest aims to help a Tacitum druid called Egill regain his speaking ability. You do that by shocking him using your Aard sign. Geralt will receive 75 experience points and the Iorveth Gwent card when you complete the quest.

Triss Merigold

Card typeClose Combat Unit
Card strength7
Special abilityHero
FactionNeutral
QuestOld Pals
LocationNovigrad

Triss Merigold is one of the most Witcher 3 missable Gwent cards. The only way to get the Triss Merigold Gwent card is by playing the “Old Pals” secondary quest and defeating Lambert for it.

To get to Lambert, you must first play with Zoltan, then Roche, and complete the quest “A Deadly Plot.”. Roche will then mention Lambert, and you will be given directions to meet him at the Nowhere Inn.

Once you get to the Nowhere Inn, it is essential to talk to Lambert immediately, or he will disappear. Ask him directly if he would like to play a game of Gwent.

Isengrim Faoiltiarna

Card strength10
Special abilityHero and Morale Boost
FactionScoia’tael
QuestA Dangerous Game

Isengrim Faoiltiarna is a unique Gwent card held by Zed. Zed was the owner of a pawnshop in Novigrad and a close acquaintance of Zoltan. He was also a well-known collector of Gwent cards.

You can obtain the Isengrim Faoiltiarna Gwent card by looting it from Zed’s house while performing the quest “A Dangerous Game”. Note that if you finish the quest without looting the card, the door to Zed’s house will lock, and you will miss the chance to obtain this card.
